Fireworks on 1st August in Romanshorn

IMG_2663

We went to Romanshorn at the Lake Constance to take some pictures of the fireworks which started at 10:30pm. It was also the Summer Nights festival and therefore there were lots of people. But we had a pretty good location because the fireworks were actually let off on the sea (a few hundred meters apart from the [...]

Botanic Gardens Munich

IMG_2455

The botanic gardens are situated near the Schloss Nymphenburg. It was created 1909 and has more than 15′000 different plants.  The entrance charge is only 4 euros and you should definitely go there. You can walk directly from the botanic gardens to the Nymphenburg where you can find the Schlosscafe in the Palmenhaus. It is [...]

Spanish Potato Tortilla (Tortilla Española) Workshop

IMG_2554

On the weekend we tried to make some original potato tortillas. Basically you need potatoes, eggs, onions and oil. We prepared the meal for 3 persons and fortunately we had some help from our spanish friend Artigas (thanks Artigas) so the result wasn’t that bad… we documented the process in detail to repeat it for further perfection . [...]

Fürstensteig (1900m) – Bargella

IMG_2417

A nice half day trip is from Gaflei via Fürstensteig to Bargella. You can do this trip easily in the morning and you are back for lunchtime. Actually the moving time is about 1 hour and 40 mins so with a few breaks it takes you about 2,5 hours.

The view is unique. At the top [...]

London in June (4) – Camden Town

IMG_2186

Camden is an inner-city district in the north of London. It is a very colorful place and a center of alternative culture like punk and Goth subcultures. If you stay in London you have to visit this district. I’ve never seen so many tattoo and piercing studios in one street.

The Camden Lock Village reopened in [...]

Dragonflies

IMG_2395

Below are some macro shots of dragonflies from the last weekend. If you are very close to the subject  it’s important to shoot with a big enough depth of field (DOF). One way to increase the DOF is to shoot with a high f-stop. I used f/8 and  f/9 this time. Unfortunately if you use [...]

London in June (3) – Kew Gardens

Kew 250

Kew Gardens
The correct name would be the The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew but usually one says just Kew Gardens. It is a vast collection of living plants (more than 30′000!) and the size is about 300acres. The entry fee is about 11 pounds. More pictures of Kew Gardens.
Rhizotron & Xstrata Treetop Walkway
This walkway gives [...]

London in June (2) – Richmond

Richmond bridge

A nice day trip you can plan is to visit Richmond and on the way back Kew Gardens. Richmond sits on the south side of the river Thames. If you have a 7-Day Travelcard for zones 1 and 2 (and I remommend to buy one if you stay that long)  the return ticket only costs about 3 pounds. [...]

London in June (1)

IMG_2318

The Piccadilly Circus at night is one of my favourite places in London to take pictures. It’s so vivid and colorful that you have lot’s of opportunities to test different modes and parameters for your “perfect” shot. Below are a few examples taken without a tripod. I tried some different ISO values and aperture times to compare [...]

Raggal -> Hoher Frassen (1979m)

Hoher Frassen Gipfel

We started the hiking trip at about 9:30am at Raggal near the church. There are enough parking spaces and also a restaurant. So you have at least something to look forward to after the tour. We went via Nitzkopf to the Hohe Frassen summit, which was a 2,5 hour walk. The ascend was not that exhausting [...]
